Feeding Animals Activities: An Easy Fine Motor Sensory Play Toddlers Will Love

Some of the best toddler activities are also the simplest.

One morning, I gathered a few toy animals, a handful of rolled oats, some cereal rings, dry pasta, and a couple of small jars from my kitchen. I wasn’t sure how long my toddler would stay interested—but within minutes, he was completely immersed in pretending every animal was hungry.

Safety Tips

Because this activity uses small food items like oats, cereal, and dry pasta, it should always be completed with close adult supervision. It is best suited for toddlers who no longer mouth small objects.

For easier cleanup, place everything on a washable tablecloth, tray, or sensory mat.

My son carefully scooped oats with a wooden spoon, dropped cereal into tiny jars, and proudly carried “food” over to the horse, pig, lion, and cow. Soon every animal was getting its own special meal, and he happily made up the rules as he played.
