A super simple toddler activity using things you probably already have at home
If you’re a toddler parent, you know the daily challenge: finding activities that are quick to set up but actually keep your little one interested.

One day I tried this super simple sticky ball wall, and it turned out to be one of those magical activities that toddlers love. My little one spent time sticking the balls on, pulling them off, and rearranging them over and over again.
I originally set up the tape with colorful plastic balls, but before long my toddler started experimenting with everything he could find! He happily stuck toy balls, smoothie bottle caps, and other lightweight toys onto the sticky strips. I loved watching him test different objects to see what would stick. It became less about following directions and more about exploring, experimenting, and using his imagination.
The best part?
It took about five minutes to set up and used very simple materials.

If you’re looking for an easy sensory activity that encourages fine motor skills and independent play, this one is definitely worth trying.

What Is the Sticky Ball Wall Activity?

This activity uses a sticky surface (contact paper or tape) attached to the wall, where toddlers can press lightweight balls so they stick.
Kids love the cause-and-effect moment when the ball sticks to the wall. They naturally start experimenting — placing balls in different spots, removing them, and sticking them back again.
It’s a wonderful mix of sensory play, motor skill development, and simple fun.
Materials You’ll Need
You only need a few basic items:
- Plastic ball pit balls (or lightweight plastic play balls)
- Smoothie bottle caps (washed and dried)
- Clear removable double-sided nano tape
- Scissors
- Smooth door, wall, refrigerator, or window
How to Set Up the Sticky Ball Wall
Step 1
Cut several long strips of double-sided nano tape.
Stick them vertically onto a clean door.
Step 2
(Optional)
Attach a few clean smoothie bottle caps beside the tape to create starting points, counting markers, or simply add visual interest.
Step 3
Place all the colorful balls into a basket.
Invite your toddler to stick each ball onto the tape.
Step 4
Allow your child to experiment.
They might:
- build tall towers
- create colorful patterns
- rearrange the balls
- count them
- sort by color
Step 5
When they’re finished, simply peel the balls off and start all over again.
The activity can be repeated many times.
If your toddler enjoys transferring and placing objects, they might also love my Water Scooping Game with a Muffin Tin, where they practice scooping floating balls from water while building fine motor skills through play.

Skills This Activity Helps Develop
Even though it looks simple, this activity supports many early learning skills:
- Fine motor skills

- Focus and concentration
Easy Ways to Extend the Activity

Once your toddler gets the hang of it, you can add little learning moments:
Color Game
Ask your child to find specific colors:
“Can you put the yellow ball on the wall?”
Counting Practice
Count the balls together as you stick them.
High and Low Game
Ask them to place balls up high or down low on the wall.
These small prompts turn the activity into a fun learning moment without feeling like a lesson.
Parent Tips
✔ Use painter’s tape so the wall surface stays protected.
✔ Choose lightweight balls so they stick easily to the contact paper.
✔ Place the activity at toddler height so kids can play independently.
✔ Do it near a play area so balls that fall are easy to collect.
✔ Expect repetition — toddlers love doing the same action again and again!
