🌸 Our Easy Flower Painting Activity
This activity is all about turning ordinary cardboard tubes into fun little paint stamps. My toddler was completely fascinated by the process—dip, press, lift… and suddenly, flowers appeared on the page!
It’s the kind of activity where there’s no “wrong way” to do it, which makes it perfect for toddlers who just want to explore.

🛠️ What You’ll Need
- Toilet paper rolls
- Kid-safe paint (we used bright spring colors)
- Paper plates (for paint)
- White paper
- Scissors (for adult use)
- Table covering (trust me on this one 😄)
✂️ How to Set It Up
First, take your toilet paper rolls and cut small slits all around one end. When you gently fan them out, they start to look like flower petals—this becomes your stamp.
I made a few different ones so we could switch colors easily without mixing everything together.
Then, pour paint onto paper plates and lay everything out. That’s it—setup takes maybe 5 minutes!

🎨 Let the Painting Begin
This is where the fun really starts.
I showed my toddler how to dip the cardboard roll into the paint and press it onto the paper. The moment they lifted it and saw a flower shape appear? Pure excitement.
From there, it was a lot of experimenting—different colors, stamping all over the page, even overlapping flowers.
We added little dots in the center using fingers, which toddlers love, and then I helped paint some simple green stems and leaves to finish it off.

💛 Why I Love Painting with Toilet Paper Rolls
This activity is more than just cute artwork—it’s actually great for development too:
- Builds fine motor skills
- Encourages creativity and independence
- Introduces color recognition
- Gives that hands-on sensory experience toddlers crave
And honestly? It kept my toddler happily busy while I sat nearby with my coffee. That’s a win.

🧽 A Quick Tip for Parents
If you’re worried about mess, you can:
- Use washable paint
- Lay down paper or a plastic tablecloth
- Keep wipes nearby
But don’t stress too much—messy play is part of the magic.
🌼 Give It a Try!
If you’re looking for a simple, budget-friendly activity, painting with toilet paper rolls is such a fun one to try. It’s easy to set up, engaging for little hands, and the results are adorable enough to hang on the fridge.
We’ll definitely be doing this again—maybe next time with different shapes!
